Old English Gallery - Walsh Walsh

these pieces are not for sale!

John Walsh Walsh was a Victorian entrepreneur, who in 1850 bought a glass factory so he did not have to buy bottles for the soft drinks he made. The factory produced high quality glassware for a century, closing in 1951. As with all English glass factories, paperweights and related items were a very minor part of the business. In 1930 Walsh Walsh bought the Arculus factory. Paperweights were made in the first half of the 20th century, but may have been made earlier - there is no evidence either way at present. Canes are similar to Arculus canes, and it is very difficult to determine which factory made some of the pieces. Most paperweights are large; some have a foot rim.
