Old English Gallery - Richardson

these pieces are not for sale!

Richardsons was a well known Stourbridge area company, making glass since the early 19th century. Paperweights appear in a catalogue for 1913, but were probably made from much earlier, maybe even in the late 1840s. They were taken over in the 1920s by Stuart Crystal. Their products included millefiori paperweights and related items such as bottles, very occasionally as 'garniture' sets with a matching bottle and pair of paperweights. The great majority of paperweights are large concentrics; some have a foot rim, and many have an outer row of white cross or star canes, or white centred cog canes. Bottles stoppers had very thin shafts and were easily broken: the remains have sometimes been ground down to make miniature paperweights. The millefiori canes can be quite distinctive.
